Fashion Insider: NYFW, Spring 2012

Jenna Lyon
Leave it to J Crew creative director Jenna Lyon to look effortlessly cool—that is, after all, the maxim at J Crew. How does she do it? By pairing a feminine dress with edgy accessories—a casually knotted belt, piles of bangles—she creates a look that fuses sophistication with insouciance. A dash of red lipstick and you know that this is someone who knows their look so well that they could put it together with their eyes closed. To try this look for yourself, pair Milly’s Pintucked Dress ($128) or Twenty-Seven Names’Maya Dress ($287.23) with Forever 21′s Woven Belt ($5.80). Then, add stacks of bangles—we like Amrita Singh’s Ashwarya Bangle Set ($150)—and apply your signature beauty look.
Rachel Zoe
Stylist and designer Rachel Zoe was spotted taking in the shows, just days after presenting her own collection at fashion week for the first time. Rachel was wearing a sleek floral dress, which she paired with simple wedges and a felt hat. Rachel loves fashion, a fact that shines through in every outfit that she puts together. Not only do we love the balance between 70s bohemian and contemporary cool that this outfit achieves, but we love the way it stays true to Rachel’s aesthetic. To make this look your own, pick up Marc Jacobs’ Applique Dress ($1,200) or Topshop’s Bodycon Dress ($58) and pair it with Rachel Zoe’s Eva Pumps ($395) and Marc by Marc Jacobs’ Felt Hat ($298).
Nina Garcia
Editor and television personality Nina Garcia is, to put it simply, so chic. For proof, just look at the ensemble above: a crisp white blouse, tailored trousers, a statement belt, and strappy heels. We adore the sophisticated simplicity of this ensemble—it smacks of someone who knows what they are doing, yet it looks so effortless. Plus, an outfit like this easily transitions from the shows to an intimate industry dinner. Inspired? To take a page from Nina’s book, grab Michael Kors’ Marocaine Slashed Blouse ($795) or Rachel Roy’s Cascade Blouse ($227.50) and pair it with ASOS’s Tux Cropped Pants ($64.03). Add a pair of D&G’s Wedge Sandals ($239.25) and then finish with Linea Pelle’s Waist Belt ($92.65).
Joanna Hillman
Fashion editor Joanna Hillman is always “one to watch” when fashion week rolls around, and this season, she was no exception. We particularly love the look above because it nicely balances basics with on-trend pieces—specifically, a low-key white tee and black wedges with statement pieces like a spotted Marc Jacobs skirt and a tweed jacket. The result is an ensemble that is of-the-moment, definitely, but will work for years to come. To pull off an equally chic ensemble, start with Bop Basics’ Dori V Neck Tee($44.10). Then, add Topshop’s Spot Pencil Skirt ($76) and Joanna’s exact jacket: Proenza Schouler’sAsymmetrical Jacket ($649). Finish with a great pair of heels; we like Free People’s Magdalena Platforms ($49.95).
