Street Chic: LFW, Spring 2012

1. Now that fall has officially arrived, you are probably making the most of your transitional pieces, which is just one of the reasons we love the outfit on the first lovely lady above. By pairing a chunky knit sweater and ankle boots with a sheer skirt, she has created a look that is as cozy as it is chic. We also love her use of accessories. By picking out an unusual pin, our muse has given her ensemble an interesting twist that will definitely turn heads. You can make this look your own by pairing All Saints’s Filix Jumper ($150) with Topshop’s Sheer Skirt ($76). Then, simply accessorize with Sam Edelman’s Rowin Ankle Boots ($323.82), a pin like Dolce & Gabbana’s Safety Pin Brooch ($375), and a pair of black opaque tights.
2. One of the simplest ways to elevate your ensemble from simple to statement is by using color, as demonstrated by Poppy Delevigne in the second image above. Her ensemble—a simple black tank, skinny jeans, and ankle boots—was given a vibrant boost with the addition of a draped green jacket and red sunglasses. These pieces instantly bring the outfit to life and give it an effortlessly chic vibe. Inspired? You can try this look for yourself by picking up Surface to Air’s Draped Linen-Blend Tank($45) and Siwy’s Leona Drainpipe Skinny Jeans ($174) and pairing them with a colorful jacket like Forever 21′s Draped Front Jacket ($22.80) or Yumi Kim’s Bren Jacket ($209). Complete the look by adding ankle boots and a pair of bright shades like American Apparel’s Sissy Sunglasses ($30).
3. There are several elements that make up the uniform of most off-duty models, all of which you can spot in the ensemble that Cara Delevigne put together in the third image above. Leather motorcycle jacket? Check! Biker boots? Check! Skinny jeans and draped tank? Check! Check! Of course, there is a reason these pieces are so widely used and it is because, when put together, they instantly create an easy outfit with a slight edge. Make this look your own by pairing Lot78′s Alice Studded Leather Biker Jacket ($1,475) with J Crew’s Finespun Draped Tank ($29.99) and Rag & Bone’s Used Grey Jeans($187). Slip into Jeffrey Campbell’s Romie Boots ($248) and then give your look a personal twist by adding a cool piece of jewelry like Reiss’s Ida Necklace ($150).
4. It is no secret that grunge has been a major trend this season, so if you are looking for some ideas, make sure you take tips from the fourth lovely lady above. We love the way she has paired a graphic tee and black skinny jeans—rocker-chic essentials—with a knit cardigan and lace-up boots. The knit cardigan adds a feminine touch to the otherwise edgy ensemble, but it also calls to mind the cardigans that Kurt Cobain once wore. The result? A grunge ensemble that feels oh-so modern. To create an equally interesting look, pick up Chaser’s American Rebel Muscle Tee ($50) and Cheap Monday’s Tight Jeans ($65) and pair them with Topshop’s Knitted Cobalt Mohair Mix Cardigan ($76) or Of Two Minds’Koty Mohair Cardigan ($389).
