Trend Report: Southwest Prints

Eniko Mihalik
One of the things we like most about this trend is that it transcends the seasons. Take, for example, the ensemble that Eniko Mihalik was spotted wearing at Paris Fashion Week. Her outfit—a printed Isabel Marant skirt, a black tee, and red ballet flats—is chic and summery, but it is also simple enough that a few small additions won’t make it look bulky. Eniko can easily add a slouchy cardigan and a pair of opaque black tights on cold fall days. To make this look your own, pick up a skirt like Proenza Schouler’sIntarsia Wool-Blend Mini Skirt ($675) or Pixie Market’s Triangle Printed Skirt ($70).
Gwen Stefani
Now that fall has arrived, chunky knit sweaters are not just a luxury, they are a necessity, which is why we love the way Gwen Stefani has been trying this trend. Gwen picked out a southwest-print sweater and paired it with a leather bomber jacket, skinny jeans, and flat loafers. The result? An ensemble that is part preppy, part rocker, and part free spirit, but also perfect for running errands as we move further into fall. To try this ultra-cool look for yourself, pick out a sweater like Sandro’s Grey Wool-Blend Sweater ($205) or Ralph Lauren Denim & Supply’s Knitted Jumper ($274).
Jaime King
Another thing we like about this trend is that it is so versatile—you can dress it up or dress it down. With regard to the latter, we love the way Jaime King has been working the look. Jaime was spotted out and about recently wearing a black tank, skinny jeans, and sneakers. Her ensemble is casual, definitely, but with the addition of a chunky printed cardigan, it quickly elevates itself from simple to stand-out. We particularly like the way Jaime chose a cardigan with plenty of color—this definitely catches the eye! To make this look your own, pick up ASOS’s Blanket Cardigan ($78.57) or Isabel Marant’s Yosemite Cardigan ($1,070).
Nicole Richie
Last, but certainly not least, we turn to Nicole Richie, who wore a pair of printed Isabel Marant jeanswhile out and about in Los Angeles recently. Now, printed jeans can be a tricky look to pull off, but not if you take notes from Nicole. By pairing her jeans with pieces of the same color—black—and by choosing simple silhouettes, Nicole has created an effortlessly chic look with a slight edge. We particularly love that this outfit easily transitions from day to night. To try this look for yourself, pick up ASOS’s Peg Trousers ($61.11) or As Is’s Megging Trousers ($48).
